To provide an ion generating element that is so designed as to alleviate the neutralization among the generated ions themselves to achieve effective releasing of ions and that thus operates with enhanced ion generation efficiency.
The ion generating element 10 includes a positive discharger 12 for generating positive ions, and a negative discharger 13 for generating negative ions. One of the positive discharger 12 and the negative discharger 13 has a pair of discharge electrodes and an induction electrode arranged with a dielectric member in between the electrodes, and the other is a needle-shaped electrode. The positive discharger 12 and the negative discharger 13 are arranged separately from each other with a predetermined distance securing insulation therebetween.
