PURPOSE: To provide the iron device maintaining the water supply/drainage capacity of a water supply/drainage device constant and supplying the steam without interruption when being used.

CONSTITUTION: The iron is provided with a water supply/drainage device 30 consisting of a motor 31 and a pump 32 supplying the water in a storage tank 20 to a tank 8 of an iron body 1 and ejecting the water in the tank 8 to the storage tank 20. By measuring a time T1 required for filling the tank 8 with water from the empty state of the tank 8 till the full state of the tank 8 detected by a water level detection means 9, and the motor 31 is driven by selecting an arbitrary voltage from the difference between the time T1 and a reference time TS, thereby the water supply/ejection capacity can be kept constant even through the water supply/ejection capacity is deteriorated due to the long-time use or the accumulation of impurities in the water.
