Title:
IRON OXIDE POWDER AND MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM USING THIS IRON OXIDE POWDER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0484401
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare iron oxide powder having enhanced coating strength as fill and not only improved anticorrosiveness, but also superior lubricity as lubricant by preparing iron oxide powder made of particulates having microholes holding lubricant therein.

CONSTITUTION: α-FeOOH powder made of needle particulates with a specific surface area of 57m2/g is heated to dehydrate at 200°C in the atmosphere to obtain iron oxide α-Fe2O3 powder made of needle particulates having microholes therein. This iron oxide powder is deaerated at 200°C in vacuum, is left dipped in stearic acid n-buthyl for 24 hours, followed by being filtered, further followed by being cleaned using toluene, and furthermore followed by being dried at 0°C to obtain iron oxide powder holding lubricant.
