Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adaptively improve a contrast by detecting the local contrast of a video signal with a difference between a low pass signal and an input signal, adaptively amplifying the detected local contrast in accordance with the size and adding it to an original signal.
SOLUTION: The difference x-m between the center sample (x) of an M×N window processing part 300 and the output signal (m) of an M×N low pass filter 302 is a contrast that a man visually senses and it is obtained in an adder 304. Namely, it is defined as the local contrast. A weighted value unit 308 improves the local contrast. Thus, the local contrast improving characteristics of various forms can be realized by properly selecting a weighted function. Thus, the local contrast of the video signal is defined to the difference of the average value of a peripheral samples and a present sample and the contrast can adaptively be improved.
