To reduce a cost by exchangeably constituting a portion of a pump in an irrigation and vacuum system for use of an irrigation system used during surgical therapy, in detail the use related to an endoscopic or minimum invasive surgical therapy.

In an irrigation system, both of vacuum and pressurized irrigation fluid are continuously supplied to a trumpet valve 60. A pump 40 for supplying the pressurized irrigation fluid is a reusable motor but has a disposable head which is exchangeable during the procedure. If there is a request for irrigation fluid in an initial period, a control circuit automatically decreases the supply voltage to the pump. When (a) there is no request for irrigation fluid upon lapse of a second period longer than the first period and (b) the voltage to the pump has not been decreased, either the voltage to the pump is not to be decreased or the pump is stopped. The irrigation system is supplied in a kit form and the parts are exchanged during the procedure included therein.
