Abstract:
PURPOSE: To efficiently isolate and purify a large amount of taxol, capable of manifesting remarkable effects on cancers such as ovarian or mammary cancer and extremely useful as medicines from a plant.
CONSTITUTION: An extract separated from preferably a leaf part of Taxus sumatrana (Taxaceae) with an organic solvent is separated and purified by the water-solvent partition and chromatography to isolate taxol of the formula. The extraction is preferably carried out under neutral chilling or heating conditions, preferably at ambient temperature or under heating conditions for several hr to several days. An ethyl acetate-water system is especially preferred in the water-solvent partition.
