PURPOSE: To carry out isomerization of an olefin, by changing the position of double bond of an olefin using a catalyst consisting of an organic aluminum compound and a fluorinated isopropanol.
CONSTITUTION: The position isomerization of the double bond of an olefin is carried out by using an organic aluminum compound of formula I (R is lower alkyl) (e.g., trimethylalumium) and a fluorinated isopropanol of formula II (4≤m-n≤6) at a molar ratio of 1:(0.5W5). The isomerization is carried out preferably using an aliphatic hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon or their halide as a solvent. The amount of the catalyst is 10-5W10-2mol of organic aluminum per 1mol of the olefin used as a raw material and the reaction is performed at 10W100°C.
EFFECT: The objective compound can be produced in high isomerization ratio with small amount of catalyst giving little by-product.
