Abstract:
Provided is a cutting tool coated with a hard film that reduces cutting resistance. A cold forming tap (10) provided with a hard film (36) coated on the surface of a tool base material (34) by a sputtering technique, wherein multiple dome-shaped protrusions are formed on the surface that is coated with the hard film (36). As a result, in addition to the surface on which the multiple protrusions are formed making point contacts with the material that is being cut, maintenance of cutting fluid between the protrusions is facilitated and cutting resistance can be significantly reduced. That is to say, a cold forming tap (10) that reduces cutting resistance is provided.
