PURPOSE: To open a paper carrying passage to perform jam processing immediately when jam is generated, and simplify the processing work more by locating a paper pinching tool, which consists of a pair of leg bodies, in the way of the paper carrying passage under the condition that the paper can be passed through between both the leg bodies.
CONSTITUTION: A jam processing means 37 is provided in the way of a paper carrying passage of a paper carrying device. In the jam processing means 37, paper pinching elastic members 39 made of rubber or the like are provided in one end of a pair of leg bodies 38, which are jointed freely to turn at one end thereof, while an energizing means 40 for energizing to the direction for making the elastic members 39 abut on each other is provided. A paper pinching tool 41 elastically energized to the pinching condition having the function opposite to the function of an existent forceps elastically energized to the pinching cancelled condition is thereby formed, and on the other hand, a receiver member 42 is provided near a jam detecting sensor in a lower side paper carrying element 30 to hold the paper pinching tool 41. When jam is detected, paper carrying elements 29, 30 are switched to the passage opening condition, and the paper pinching tool 41 is switched to the paper pinching condition to pinch the jammed paper.
