To provide a joining method for a hollow member, by which the hollow member is hardly deformed even when the thickness of plate material for the hollow member to be joined is thin, and to provide a joint structure.
In the joining method for joining hollow members 10 and 10 together both of which are provided with a first plate 11, a second plate 12 facing the first plate 11, and a third plate 13 connecting an end portion 11a of the first plate 11 and an end portion 12a of the second plate 12, the hollow members 10 and 10 are not only disposed apart from each other with an intermediate plate 20 arranged between them, but also disposed such that each third plate 13 butts each other against both faces of the intermediate plate 20, and a rotary tool 30 for friction stir welding is rotated and pushed against an end face of the intermediate plate 20, so that the friction stir welding is performed on a butting portion 21 where each of the third plates 13 and 13 butts against the intermediate plate 20.
