To provide a joining method for metal members capable of increasing the joining strength of a Fe-based metal member with an Al-based metal member.
The Fe-based metal member 1 and the Al-based metal member are joined with each other via a Zn-based brazing filler metal 3 between the Fe-based metal member 1 and the Al-based metal member (not shown). A brazing filler metal containing ≤2.0 wt.% Al and the balance Zn with inevitable impurities is used for the Zn-based brazing filler metal 3. During the joining, the liquid phase of the Zn-based brazing filler metal 3 is formed, and the Zn-based brazing filler metal 3 is heated so that the Zn primary crystal 21 consisting of the Zn crystal or the eutectic crystal 22 of Zn and Al is crystallized when the Zn-based brazing filler metal 3 in the liquid phase is solidified. Thus, A bonding layer 4 constituted of the Zn primary crystal 21 and the eutectic crystal 22 of Zn and Al is formed thereby. In this condition, any intermetallic compound layer consisting of FeAl-based compounds is not formed on a boundary part between the Fe-based metal member 1 and the Zn-based brazing filler metal 3.
