To provide a joining method, which, when applying friction stir welding to a pair of metal members, suppresses distortion generated in the metal member and further is easily performed.
The joining method includes: a first friction stirring step of applying friction stir welding, from a front surface (A) side, to a butted part J1, which is formed by butting a pair of metal members 1a, 1b to each other; a second friction stirring step of applying friction stir welding from a rear surface (B) side; and overlapping plasticized areas W1, W2, which are prepared in the first friction stirring step and the second friction stirring step. Further, the joining method includes a weld reforming step of welding the butted part J1 from the rear surface (B) side before conducting the second friction stirring step.
