PURPOSE: To obtain a joined graphite-metal structural body which has good heat transmission at the boundary and has no cracks in the graphite part by joining a graphite member and metallic member via an intermediate layer consisting of a W metal.
CONSTITUTION: The joined graphite-metal structural body is obtd. by joining the graphite member and metallic member via the intermediate layer consisting of W or W alloy. For example, Ti-contg. silver solder foil is held in place between the graphite member having a shape of a sheet material, etc. and the W alloy sheet, then silver solder foil is held in place and superposed between such W alloy sheet and a copper member having a shape of a sheet material, etc. Pressurizing force is exerted to the entire part thereof and a heating treatment is executed in a vacuum to obtain the joined material by brazing. The deflectless joined structural body of the graphite member and the high thermally expanding metallic member such as copper or stainless steel which are largely different in the coefft. of thermal expansion is thus obtd. without defects such as cracks. The heat transmission from the graphite member to the metallic member is excellent as well.
