To ensure earthquake-proof quality in the joint of an underground embedded tube by dividing a steel sleeve into a body having its cross-section shape formed so as to have the same as or similar to the cross-section of a steel protecting tube and whose upper part is open, and a lid member for sealing the upper part of the body.
A steel sleeve 5 onto which the joint part of a steel protecting tube is fitted through a seal material 11 is formed into such a structure as to be divided into a roughly U-shaped body 12 whose top is open and a flat lid member 13 for sealing the top. The roughly U-shaped body 12 of the steel sleeve 5 is integrated as a sleeve after connection work of the steel protecting tubes 5 with each other by placing the lid member 13 on the sleeve body 12, fastening them in the hole 15 of a flange 14 and the hole 16 of the lid member 13 with each other with a fastening means, such as bolts and nuts or the like. It is thus possible to facilitate construction work for ensuring high gastightness or stop cock at the joint part with earthquake-proofing quality ensured in the joint of the steel underground embedded protecting tube 1.
