PURPOSE: To improve the operability of the KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) converter by providing the converter with a syntax meansing analytical processing time setting means and a syntax meaning analysis aborting key, and when the syntax analytical processing time exceeds a set time or key entry is executed, outputting a converted result.
CONSTITUTION: A morphem analyzing part 601 transfers a sentence chandidate first selected by a morphem candidate network 602 to a syntax meaning analysis control part 603. The control part 603 sets up a timer and executes key receiving processing. When the syntax meaning analysis aborting key 502 is inputted, the processing of the control part 603 is ended and the sentence candidate transferred from the analysis part 601 to the control part 603 is displayed on a display device. When the input is other than the key 502, syntax analytical processing 605 is executed based upon part-of-speach information and the sentence is divided in each clause. Then the contents of an area (UP-MAX) storing the maximum time of the set syntax meaning analytical processing time is compared with the timer time. In the case of timer time ≥UT-MAX, the processing of the control part is ended and the sentence candidate transferred from the analysis part 601 to the control part 603 is displayed on the display device as a KANA / KANJI converted result.
