A Clark key 10 is provided with a metal ring 102, while a key reader 11 is provided with a magnetic sensor 113 and a magnet ring 115. Since a change occurs in the distribution of magnetic field of the magnet ring 115 between the state in which the Clark key 10 is mounted on the key reader 11 and the state in which it is dismounted, this change is detected by the magnetic sensor 113 to find out the mounting state of the Clark key 10. Only when the Clark key 10 is mounted, electric waves for questioning are emitted via an antenna 111 provided at the key reader 11, and key data stored in a transponder 101 provided at the Clark key 10 is read by wireless communication.
