To provide a key and a discrimination device therefor ensuring specific strength by integrally forming the whole body including a hold section of a metal plate and, at the same time, extending the maximum operating distance of a transponder without enlarging the hold section larger than it needs.
A through-hole 13a is formed in the metal plate-like hold section 13, a notch section 13b is formed in the circumferential edge of the through-hole 13a, and the transponder 16 is stored in the through-hole 13a. The transponder 16 includes an antenna coil 17 and an IC chip 18 storing inherent information of a key 11 electrically connected to the antenna coil 17. The axis of the antenna coil 17 is so constituted that it is vertical to the surface of the hold section 13.
