To provide a key-replaceable lock and a method for substituting the key, which is simple and cost-effective.
The key-replaceable lock 100 is provided with a locking and an unlocking positions and also includes a housing 104 and a cylinder 102 rotatably supported in the housing. The lock has wafer tumblers 108, which are supported elastically within channels 106 formed correspondingly in the cylinder. Each wafer tumbler is provided with a base element 110 and a rider element 112 selectively engaging at a first and a second engaging positions. The first engaging position corresponds to the first key 120 and the second engaging position corresponds to the second key. Moreover, the lock has a key-substitute mechanism as a key-substitute tool 152. When the lock is in the unlocking position, the tool releases the rider elements from the corresponding base elements at the first engaging position and also is inserted in a key-substitute slot 150 so as to re-engage the rider elements with the base elements at the second engaging position.
