To provide a key switch which can be easily configured and allow an authentication operation to be easily performed.
In the key switch, a switch body 1 includes: a roughly cylindrical housing 5 which has an upper surface 5A where a key insertion hole 6 to insert a key 2 is formed, and contains a printed board 11 loaded with an optical sensor 15 and a microcomputer 12; and a case 20 fitted to an opening 5B at the lower part of the housing 5. The key 2 has an intrinsic information pattern 3 configured by arranging elements of the same or different shape for an arbitrary number and at an arbitrary interval, and the key 2 is authenticated by detecting the information pattern 3 by the optical sensor 15 accompanying the inserting operation or inserting and removing operation of the key 2 and comparing it with an authentication pattern stored in the microcomputer 12.
