To provide a knitting needle hardly causing troubles such as abrasion and breakdown on the knitting needle and much excellent in durability even when knitting with the knitting needle the hardly knittable materials such as metal fiber, by covering a part or the whole of the needle top part surface of the knitting needle with DLC (diamond-like carbon) used in countermeasure for abrasion and the like of the parts of a sewing machine and the tip end part (hard ball) on the sewing machine needle, and to provide a production method of the knitting needle.

Provided is a knitting needle 18 which has a needle bole part 12 freely rotatably supporting a latch 14, and a hook 16 extended at the tip of the needle bole 12 and bent almost U letter-like, wherein, on the needle top part 18, a diamond-like carbon film is precisely covered on a part or the whole of the surface thereof.
