A label making apparatus 50 comprises a body 1 including a key board 3 and a thermal head, and a cover 2 including a case 20 for housing respective types of stripe label sheet wherein the body 1 and the cover 2 are connected each other. Buttons 10a-10f are arranged in correspondence with housing regions 20a-20f formed by partitioning the sheet housing case 20. The label making apparatus 50 stores information concerning the label sheets being housed in the housing regions 20a-20f in correspondence with the buttons 10a-10f. When the button 10 is depressed, information concerning a label sheet housed in a corresponding housing region 20 is read out and printing can be carried out depending on the type of the label sheet.
