To provide a label production apparatus and a tag production apparatus for producing a tag set up in an optional length in the longitudinal direction.

The label production apparatus and the tag production apparatus are provided with a slit area setting means, an image forming area setting means, an image forming means and a cutting means. The slit area setting means sets up a first slit area A-N1 wherein a first slit N1 is installed and a second slit area A-N2 wherein a second slit N2 to engage with the first slit N1 is installed, in a long label source paper having a pre-determined width. The image forming area setting means sets up an image forming area A-I for forming an image in an area where the first slit area A-N1 and the second slit area A-N2, in the label source paper, are not set up. The image forming means forms an image in the image forming area A-I. The cutting means sets up a range containing the first slit area A-N1, the second slit area A-N2 and the image forming area A-I as a label and cuts the label from the label source paper.
