Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject stable and high-purity compound by hydrolyzing an amino acid containing a lactam or a lactam with a mixture of concentrated sulfuric acid and water and then conducting ion exchange of the reaction product.
SOLUTION: (i) A compound of formula II containing a compound of formula I (n is 5) or a compound of formula I alone is hydrolyzed with an isovolume mixture of concentrated mineral acid (hydrochloric acid) and water to form an acid-addition salt and (ii) the acid-addition salt is subjected to ion exchange to decrease amounts of the compound of formula I and mineral acid anions each contained in the compound of formula II down to <0.5 wt.% and <20 ppm, respectively. A pharmacological composition is preferably formed by being mixed with a pharmaceutically permissible adjuvant (e.g. hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose) which does not promote the formation of the compound of formula I.
