Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a medicine containing a specific lactam imide and capable of being administered together with one or more of other antiprotozoal medicines to treat or prevent the infections of medicine-resistant protozoa. CONSTITUTION: This medicine contains a compound of formula I [Z is H, a 1-4C alkyl; (n) is 3-16; R is a 8-15C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy-(8-15C) alkyl, a group of formula II (A' is a 1-6C alkylene, benzyl), 1- or 2-adamantly, biphenylyl, dibenzocycloheptenyl, a group of formula III; X is O, S; A is a bond, a 1-3C alkylene; R<1> is a 1-4C alkyl, a 3-6C alkenyl, phenyl, etc.), a group of formula IV (R<2> is phenyl, etc.; R<3> is H, CH3 , etc.)] or its salt, e.g. 2-(2-norbornylimino) azacyclotridecane, as an active ingredient. The medicine is important for treating the infection of medicine-resistant Plasmodium protozoa, especially the malaria infection of the medicine-resistant station of Plasmodium falciparum to man.
