Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the rise characteristics at the beginning of discharge by partially providing a conductive layer of good conductivity on a silver peroxide sheet that is used in a positive electrode body.

CONSTITUTION: A conductor 5 is provided with a number of penetration holes of 0.5 to 1mm in diameter on a positive electrode body 2, and for example, is filled with the conductive resin with resistivity of 10-2Ωcm or more. When electrolyte is injected in a battery and allowed to make contact with the conductor 5, electric discharge instantaneously takes place radially along the plate surface centering the contact point and sequential discharge occurs along the inside of the positive electrode body 2 through the conductor 5 being excited by said discharge. As a result, the rise characteristics after the injection of the electrolyte can be improved and flat voltage can be obtained at an earlier time. Then for the battery, discharge is performed at 1,000mA/cm2 loading and the discharge characteristics using a 4mol lithium hydroxide electrolyte are shown by curve B in the figure. As a result, the rise at the beginning of discharge arrives at flat voltage in some 10 seconds and the rise time is sharply improved as compared with the rise time of the conventional battery (curve A).
