PURPOSE: To reduce the wait time of a client side by allowing an absence management device to automatically detect a state of unavailable computer used by the user, that is, a state requiring changeover of substitute reply processing and selecting the substitute reply processing automatically so as to eliminate the need for the changeover of the substitute reply processing by the operation of the user.
CONSTITUTION: An absence monitor means of an absence monitor server application 5 discriminates whether or not computers (telephone systems) 8-1, 8-2 used by the user are actually operationable. When the computer 8-1 is available, a substitute reply processing client application 3-1 working on the computer 8-1 starts a substitute reply processing server application 11 and when the computer 3-1 is not available, an absence monitor server application 5 starts the substitute reply processing server application 11 to implement the substitute reply processing. Furthermore, each of telephone client applications 2-1, 2-2 uses a number registration means to manage a user ID (telephone number) using the concerned computers 8-1, 8-2.
