The LAN connection device is provided with physical ports 206a-206d, a packet relay section 200 the relays a packet between channels connected to the physical ports, a master system changeover available port 206b and a sub system changeover available port 206a that share a channel 207a and are connected exclusively to the share channel 207a by a switch circuit 204, a carrier detection section 203 that detects a communication carrier from the sub system changeover available port 206a, and a switch control section 201 that connects the sub system changeover available port 206a to the share channel 207a at detection of a carrier and selects the main system changeover available port 206b when no switch changeover request comes from the carrier detection section 203 for a prescribed time.
