PURPOSE: To obtain the title nonionic film which can form an excellent thin film and is useful as the material of functional thin films such as a separatory film of a new type and a sensor by preparing it from a specific porphyrin.

CONSTITUTION: The title film is made from α,α,α,α-tetra(o-substituted phenyl) porphyrin [e.g. a compound of formula I (wherein all of Rs are groups of formula II, III or IV; and the central coordinating metal may be FeII or ZnII as well as CoII) having a substituent R-CONH- [wherein R is a 5-30C perfluoroether group or a 4-30C (substituted)alkyl group, all of the Rs being in the same direction with respect to the porphyrin plane] at the 2-position of each phenyl group.
