Abstract:

To make a lamp shade attractive as interior decoration lighting compared with conventional ones, particularly those to which no elaborate work man ship Japanese paper is stucked, which emit only in direct light and produce no variations in light.

In a lantern type lamp shade having Japanese paper 1 stucked to the surface of a skeleton formed by winding strips 4 of bamboo into a spiral, cuts of desired shapes are made in almost the surface of the Japanese paper 1 to from a number of slits 2. Some of the slits 2 are extended across the strips 4 of bamboo so that the strips 4 of bamboo block a part of the light transmitted through the slits 2, producing a unique pattern of direct light in which the light and shadow are combined.
