To provide a large area composite material which is suitable for reinforcing curved surfaces and edges.

The large area composite material (1) contains fibers (20, 30) impregnated with a resin (21). The composite material comprises at least two pairs of mutually parallel fiber cord groups (2, 3) which are extended in different directions, respectively, to form a web, a mesh or a grid. The fiber cord groups have a bundle-like shape or a belt-like shape. The first pair (2) of fibers (20) are impregnated with a considerably large amount of the resin (21) than those in the second pair of the fibers and, if necessary, the further other pair (3) of fibers (30). The composite material (1) has good rigidity in the direction of the first pair of the fibers, and good flexibility in the direction crossing the direction of the first pair of the fibers. Spaces preferably exist between the fiber cords.
