Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a production process of a lactoferricin of at least 90% purity which has antimicrobial activity nearly comparable to those of broad spectra antibiotics, in the scale of at least gram unit.
CONSTITUTION: A peptide mixture of enzymic hydrolyzate of bovine lactoferrin containing an antimicrobial peptide, lactoferricin, is adsorbed on the chromatograph carrier having butyl groups or a carrier for cation-exchange chromatography. The carrier is washed and the antimicrobial peptide is eluted out and the eluate is desalted to give a large amount of lactoferricin of high purity. Since no chemical hazardous to human and animals such as organic solvents is used, a large amount of lactoferricin of high purity can be produced safely. Further, lactoferricin of high purity can be produced by no use of complicated production devices and the production scale can easily be adjusted to any desired level.
