To easily change the direction of a shield machine in a narrow space by a simple structure and with small load, concerning a large-sized and heavy article direction changing device.
A shield machine 6 is loaded on an installation table 21, and the table 21 is movable on a rail 8 of a turning table 11. The turning table 11 is attached to a center shaft 14 of a lower frame 9 by a flanged boss 16 through a bush 15 and rotated. When the table 21 is transferred onto the turning table 11, a hydraulic elevating cylinder 10 is vertically moved and positioned in relation to the rail 8 for connection, and the table is transferred. After that, the cylinder 10 is lowered, and the turning table 11 is transferred onto steel balls 13 on turning jigs 12 of the lower frame 9. A driving winch 20 is driven, a wire 19 connected to a wire attaching fitting 17 is pulled through wire guide rings 18, and the turning table 11 is rotated on the steel balls 13 at 90° and then changed in the direction.
