Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus taking into account various problems so certifying that an aircraft can operate even not only in a normal icing condition but also in an icing condition including a supercooled large drop.SOLUTION: An icing condition detection system includes an optional number of sensors 626 and an icing condition detector. One sensor of the optional number of sensors is configured to emit electromagnetic radiations 627 into water drops 638 in environment around the aircraft 612. One sensor of the optional number of sensors is configured to detect reaction to the electromagnetic radiations. One sensor of the optional number of sensors is configured to generate data from the reaction. The icing condition detector is configured to monitor data from the optional number of sensors. The icing condition detector is further configured to detect presence of an optional number of types of icing conditions concerning the aircraft by using the data from the optional number of sensors.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
