PURPOSE: To protect a power supply by connecting a high-frequency power supply of variable frequencies between a pair of electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: A discharge part 1 is formed by a dielectric body, a pair of electrodes 3a and 3b are placed above and below the discharge part 1 created by a dielectric body to enable a laser gas 2 to flow onto a paper surface at right angle, high-frequency voltage is applied between the electrodes 3a and 3b from a high-frequency power supply 4 with variable frequency such as a self-excitation inverter. Thus, discharge resistance can be maintained to be nearly constant by varying frequency according to the amount of change when discharge input changes. Thus, the power supply 4 can be effectively protected by controlling reflection wave power from the discharge part 1 to the power supply 4.
