To provide a laser engraving method by which a photosensitive layer always having stable quality can be formed on a supporting body and an image having high quality can be formed, in the laser engraving method by which an image forming material on which the image has been formed is prepared by exposing the photosensitive layer applied on the supporting body with a laser beam.
In the laser engraving method, a photosensitive plate material is applied on the supporting body (3) of a plate cylinder (21)(a drum for fixing the image forming material) to form the photosensitive layer, the photosensitive layer is subjected to drying treatment to constitute the image forming material, then scanning image exposure is performed by a laser beam and then, the resultant image forming material is subjected to treatment by an engraving treatment agent to form the image. In the drying treatment of the photosensitive layer, energy is applied to the photosensitive layer by means of a heating and drying mechanism (9) while the plate cylinder (21) is rotated and a heating stages A and B having heating conditions different from each other are performed.
