Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser peening treatment method for improving fatigue property more than the conventional methods in an environment where repeated loads act on a weld toe portion of a weld structure and a plastic deformation region of a formed product by effectively introducing compressive residual stress into these portions.SOLUTION: In the laser peening treatment method, a pulsed laser beam is irradiated on a surface of a material to be treated via a laser medium after being converged and the compressive residual stress is formed in the neighborhood of the irradiated spot of the surface. In the method, the pulsed laser beam scans the surface of the material in such a manner that overlay ratio of the neighboring irradiated spots is within the range of 92 to 99 area% in the direction (X direction) perpendicular to the direction (Y direction) to which the preliminarily assumed repeated load is applied.
