To form spot-shaped weld zones that can secure welding strength from multiple directions.
With a laser head 27 relatively moved in the direction of the arrow B along a planned welding region, mutually superimposed workpieces 10A, 10B are intermittently irradiated with a laser beam while a lens 29 is being oscillated at an angular speed , thereby forming spot-shaped weld zones along the planned welding region. In the beam irradiation here, since the lens 29 is oscillating at the angular speed by a tilting means, the optical axis L of the lens 29 is made to tilt in the direction opposite from the arrow B. By this tilting, the beam irradiation position is transferred in the opposite direction from the arrow B at nearly an equal speed as the scanning speed, so that the relative speed of the beam irradiation position becomes roughly zero relative to the workpieces 10A, 10B. In other words, the beam irradiation position is at a standstill on the workpieces 10A, 10B, making the planar shape of the weld zone close to complete roundness.
