Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain always stable and sound weld zones by scattering powder of strongly magnetic body at the butting part of welded materials to fill the groove space and making laser welding after applying a magnetic field to the scattered powder.

CONSTITUTION: A space is formed between grooves 2A, 2B at the butting part of welded materials 2. Powder of strongly magnetic body such as iron powder etc. is scattered in the space to fill the space. Next, the welded materials 2 are placed in a coil 10, and strongly magnetic powder 6 filled between grooves 2A, 2B is fixed by leakage magnetic flux 8 of welded end, or an electromagnet or a permanent magnet 12 is placed on the welded materials 2 to form a magnetic circuit including grooves 2A, 2B, and the strongly magnetic powder 6 between grooves 2A, 2B is fixed by leakage magnetic flux 8. When laser welding is made after this, the strongly magnetic powder 6 obstructs passing of laser beam and acts as a medium to heighten the energy of laser beam and promotes melting of the groove face.
