To provide a lathe enabling linear processing in a vertical surface of a workpiece.
A lathe includes: a rotary table 12 on which a work W is disposed; a cross rail 14 which is located above the rotary table 12 and extends in its radius direction; a saddle 15 which is guided by the cross rail 14 and movable along an X-axis direction; an X-axis linearly-driving mechanism 18 moving the saddle 15 in an X-axis direction; a ram 16 movably attached to the saddle 15 along a Z-axis direction; a Z-axis linearly-driving mechanism 19 moving the ram 16 in a Z-axis direction; a tool holder 2 mounted on the lower end part of the ram 16 and holding a front surface fraise 1; and a pivot mechanism 3 pivoting the tool holder 2 around the Z-axis. The tool holder 2 includes a holder body disposed below the ram 16, and a rotary driving mechanism mounted on the holder body and transmitting an axis orthogonal to the Z-axis to the front surface fraise 1 so as to rotate around the axis. A processing part 1A of the front surface fraise 1 is made opposite to the vertical surface W11 of the workpiece W.
