To provide a lathe capable of reducing eccentricity of a collet chuck from a spindle and improving coaxiality of a workpiece with the spindle.

The spindle 12 is supported on a spindle stock 11 to be rotatable around its shaft center. A chuck sleeve 14 is passed through and supported by the spindle 12 to be movable toward the shaft center. The collet chuck 15 for grasping the workpiece W is supported at the tip of the chuck sleeve 14. A cap 18 for regulating movement of the collet chuck 15 toward the shaft center is fixed to the spindle 12. A holding member 20 is rotatably put on the cap 18. The collet chuck 15 is held by the holding member 20 on the spindle 12 so that a rotation angle around the shaft center of the spindle 12 can be controlled.
