A laundry system usable in a cashless fashion by use of debit cards (bank cash cards) is provided. Laundry equipment (washing machine and dryer) is provided with a debit card reader 14. When a debit card is inserted into the debit card reader 14, the reader is connected to a bank under contract with the debit card, and the customer is made to enter a password to check whether or not the debit card is the correct one. If the debit card is usable, operating time is input and the sum of money needed therefor is calculated; if the bank balance is more than the charge, operation of the laundry equipment is started.
