Life characteristics are enhanced by using a grid of a lead-calcium alloy system in an electrode plate group having the same number of positive plates 2 and negative plates 3, using a tin-lead alloy in a negative strap 6, enhancing charge efficiency of the positive plate by improving the loadings of carbon and barium sulfate in a negative active material, and making ratio S/V in 2.2 cm-1 or more when a volume value of the negative plate group is represented by (V) and the sum of the surface area of the electrode plates is represented by (S).
