PURPOSE: To quicken a forming speed and also to facilitate a maintenance by providing the means of vertically moving an upper die and the means of changing the open height of a die by simultaneously moving vertically the motor for driving thereof, a motor and the vertically moving means on a lead forming device.

CONSTITUTION: A crank 5 vertically moves a lower ram 3 at stroke l1 and an upper ram 1 is simultaneously moved vertically to form a frame. The forming is executed by repeating this cycle. In case of making the rotation of a motor 8 at high speed the forming speed is also quickened. At this time, in case of detecting the abnormality of the frame, a cratch brake 7 is actuated, a cylinder 10 is worked simultaneously and when a movable head 9 is ascended by a stroke l2, an upper die 21 does not reach to a frame transfer line 20 and the upper die 21 and lower die 22 are not broken, the open height becomes l1+l2 and the maintenance becomes easy to handle.
