To provide a lead wire and a packaging material using it, especially for securing sealability at a lead wire body section, when in packaging a lithium battery, a lithium battery body is inserted into an outer covering body, and the periphery is heat-sealed for sealing.

In this lead wire for batteries, front and back faces and both side faces of the lead wire body made of a long, slender plate metal are surrounded, after formation treatment is performed on the lead wire body and a coating band with a brim part, having a width of 3 mm or larger and a shape to narrow as spacing from both end faces of the plate side face. In this packaging material for batteries, the outer covering body made of at least a base material layer, an adhesive layer, aluminum, a formation treated layer and a polyethylene resin heat seal layer is formed, and a battery body comprising the lead wire is inserted into the armored body and then the periphery is heat-sealed for securing sealing.
