PURPOSE: To raise efficiency of rough rubbing process and to obtain high-quality product of green tea by connecting a leaf beating barrel of specific shape to a rubbing barrel, beating leaves of tea while removing drops of steam from a tea steaming machine at a given temperature and then carrying out preliminary rubbing.

CONSTITUTION: A leaf beating barrel 4 is connected to a rubbing barrel 6, steamed tea leaves discharged from a tea leaf steaming machine are fed to the leaf beating barrel while sending hot air to the leaf beating barrel 4, the leaves are beaten while removing drops of steam from the steamed tea leaves by the leaf beating barrel and the steamed tea leaves are preliminarily rubbed by the rubbing barrel 6. Especially the bottom of the leaf beating barrel is made into a pentagon or hexagon and the steamed tea leaves scooped by rotation of the barrel are rectangularly collided to the under surface of the barrel. On the other hand, the rubbing barrel is internally equipped with rubbing elements, which are rotated in the direction opposite to the rotation of the rubbing barrel to rub and then successively to cool the steamed tea leaves.
