Abstract:

To provide a lean burn engine capable of largely improving fuel economy performance, by largely improving heat efficiency.

This lean burn engine 1 includes an engine body having a combustion chamber 17, and a control means 100 for controlling operation of the engine body. At least a part of a surface for partitioning the combustion chamber 17 is constituted of combustion chamber heat insulation layers 61-65 arranged on the surface side of a base material. The engine body is set to 20≤≤50 in the geometric compression ratio . The control means 100 is set to 2.5≤λ≤6 in the air excessive ratio λ in combustion when the engine body exists in an operation area of at least a partial load.
