To provide a leather material having a property which controls the occurrence of residual strain in area and length when physical tension is removed after the material is elongated in the longitudinal, transverse, and diagonal directions by applying the tension for a long time and makes the material naturally recover the dimensions close to the original dimensions and a method for producing the leather material.

Flexible, stretchable leather at least 40% in elongation at break, at least 1 mm in softness gauge value, and 1,000 mgf or below in rigidity measured by a Gurley method and a backing material which is expandable in all directions and 1% or below in residual strain in length after 100% elongation are partially bonded by an adhesive at least 105.5 dyne/cm2 in dynamic modulus of viscoelasticity at 70°C and laminated to make the leather material.
