To provide a method for producing a structural material exhibiting a sufficient hardness when used as a building material by using leather remnants cut into a fibrous or powdery state as a raw material and to effectively utilize a waste coming out of a production process of leather products.

Cut pieces obtained by cutting or grinding the rawhide of livestock into an arbitrary shape and size or cut pieces obtained by cutting or grinding leather into an arbitrary shape and size and removing fat and oil therefrom, are dried, impregnated with a synthetic resin hardening agent of 10-50 wt%, and hardened; and the resultant hardened cut pieces in a suitable amount are mixed with a resin binder in a mold and compressed under pressure to be integrated. If necessary, the resin binder and a suitable amount of sand and stone are mixed to be cured.
