Title:
LEATHER POST-TANNING PROCESS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS59125000
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for retanning leather with polymers based on acrylic and/or methacrylic acid in an aqueous liquor with or without further auxiliaries and tanning-active substances by letting water-soluble polymers P act on the leather in an aqueous liquor. The polymers P contain at least 10% by weight, based on the total polymer, of structural units A < IMAGE > where R is hydrogen or methyl and Z<+> is an ammonium cation < IMAGE > which is in equilibrium with protons or other cations present and in which R1, R2 and R3 are independently of one another hydrogen or an alkyl radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms which may be substituted by a hydroxyl group or by an optionally alkyl-substituted amino group, subject to the proviso that R1, R2 and R3 are not all hydrogen, and 0 to 90% by weight, based on the total polymer P, of structural units B < IMAGE > where R' is hydrogen or methyl, and 0 to 50% by weight of other structural units formed from monomers C which are copolymerisable with A and optionally B and end groups corresponding to the structural units.
