To provide a structure to contrive downsizing of an image pickup apparatus by reducing, when a lens barrel is in a stored position, the thickness of the image pickup apparatus in its optical axis direction and also reducing the outside diameter of an iris diaphragm, thereby achieving downsizing of the lens barrel.
The lens barrel 19 has a second lens holding frame 7 adapted to hold a second lens 2 in such a manner that the second lens 2 can move closer to or apart from a first lens 1 in an optical axis direction, and the iris diaphragm 5 arranged between the first lens 1 and the second lens 2 and having diaphragm blades 6 to adjust an amount of incident light. The second lens 2 includes a convex spherical portion protruding from the second lens holding frame 7 toward the first lens 1 side at the end on a side opposite to the first lens 1 in the optical axis direction. When the lens barrel 19 is in the stored position, the second lens 2 is arranged close to the first lens 1, and an inner circumferential portion of the diaphragm blade 6 is arranged inwardly in the radial direction of the second lens holding part 7 and oppositely to the convex spherical portion in the radial direction.
